Hip Hop

The hip-hop emerged in the mid-1970s blacks and Latinos in the suburbs of New York. Thesesuburbs, real ghettos, they faced many social problems like poverty, violence, racism, drug trafficking, lack of infrastructure and education, among others. Young people in the street werethe only recreational space, and usually entered a gang system, which confronted the violent wayin the struggle for territorial control. The gang operated as an oppressive system within their ownneighborhoods - who was part of some gang, or who was out, always knew the territory and the rules imposed by them, and follow them strictly.
The hip hop dance includes a wide variety of styles, including breaking, locking, popping, andkrumping. Breaking, popping and locking were developed in the 1970s by blacks and LatinAmericans. The krumping arose in the 1990s, African-American communities in Los Angeles.What separates the dance hip hop dancing are other forms of movement improvisation(freestyle) and the hip-hop dancers often engage in contests in dance competitions. FreestyleSessions and disputes are usually performed in a cipher, a circular dance space that forms naturally once the dancing begins.
